Maternal, Infant and Young Child Nutrition (MIYCN)

Sustainable Development Goal 2 is premised on the notion that everyone should have access to sufficient nutritious food. In sub-Saharan Africa about 220 million people still suffer from hunger, and 36% of children under the age of five years are affected by stunting – a chronic form of under – nutrition defined as inadequate height for age – according to United Nations’ reports. In this context, nutrition is a powerful driver of sustainable development goals. At EVIHDAF, we work on programs that seek to improve: nutrition outcomes particularly during the first 1,000 days (Between a woman’s pregnancy and her child’s second birthday); infant and young child feeding practices and nutrition among pre-school and school age children; access to daily dietary requirements i.e. “the condition in which all people, at all times, have physical, social and economic access to sufficient safe and nutritious food that meets their dietary needs and food preferences for an active and healthy life”.

Focused in the West and Central Africa region, EVIHDAF, via its various services, aims in the MIYCN area, to:

  • Produce, strengthen and expand evidence for the development of country-owned, evidence-based costed action plans for ensuring deliberate, effective integration of high-impact interventions;
  • improve maternal nutrition and feeding practices for infants and young children.

Our area of practice as regards MIYCN is as follows:
